Hyponatremia is a condition in which the body has an insufficient count of salt in the blood. This is caused by water intoxication, which can be caused by consuming too much water in a small amount of time. The average amount of water intake to cause water intoxication is about 6 liters.
Substance dependency is a condition in regards to the essential intake of materials in order to perform certain tasks. Many people suffer from substance dependency on many different levels. I myself rely heavily on caffeine in the morning and throughout the day, melatonin in order to fall asleep, and other materials in order to complete tasks, feel healthy and relieve myself of anxiety.
I am interested in both of the concepts, and aim to address the reliance of materials that can become harmful. We live in a culture where substance decency is everywhere. In response to this, I attempt to consume 6 liters of water, while being emerged or dowsed with water, to address the over consumption of substances required to complete small tasks. I aim to create a soothing, yet unsettling scenario in my work to identify the advantages and disadvantages in the substance-obsessed culture we are all connected to today.
